Nixon Newell's first tour of Japan so far had seen her compete for Stardom in three tag team matches and one trios match. She had accumulated three wins including two against Wonder of Stardom Champion Kairi Hojo. Her only loss on this tour so far had been alongside Kay Lee Ray in a match for the Goddesses of Stardom Championship against Kairi and Yoko Bito. The final match of her inaugural tour would see Nixon face Kairi for the Wonder of Stardom Championship on the fourth night of Stardom New Years Stars 2017.

Kairi had been challenged by Nixon during the Stardom 6th Anniversary show at Korakuen Hall for the Wonder of Stardom Championship. The Pirate Princess had accepted. Nixon said it sweet and simple in a promo prior to the match: On that night the bum bag wouldn't be the only thing she wore around her waist. Kairi came into their match not sure what to expect from Nixon in a singles encounter though eager for the challenge.

Nixon stepped forward prior to the opening bell and offered a handshake. To assure Kairi she would not pull the same trick KLR pulled on her during the trios match, Nixon even put her other hand in the air. Kairi accepted. Nixon gave a respectful bow after the shake. The bell rang and the match would begin with the competitors grappling and countering as they sought control of things in a clean contest. Things tensed after Kairi slid under Nixon to sunset flip her for a pin attempt. Nixon kicked out and retaliated with a kick to the chest sending Kairi to the floor.

Newell wasted no time ascending to the top rope and taking out Kairi and all four cornerwomen with a crossbody. Back in the ring, Nixon worked over Kairi's arm. She strayed away from the clean start, boot choking her opponent. Nixon delivered a kick to the back and ascended to the top. Kairi ripped into Nixon's chest with a massive chop as she flew down at her. An onslaught of brutal chops stranded Nixon into the corner. There it would worsen for her as Kairi held a machine gun chops party. The party concluded with a charging chop from the Pirate Princess.

Kairi whipped Nixon to the opposite corner, connecting with a running shoulder tackle followed by Sliding D and a diving forearm from the top rope. Nixon was stacked up for a pin but kicked out. Kairi hung onto Nixon's leg turning her failed pin attempt into her cross-legged crab Ikari. Nixon managed to get to the ropes to force a break but not without taking damage. Kairi followed up with a merciless series of kicks. After those she placed Nixon's left leg on the rope and assaulted her hamstring with a chop, kick and forearm smash.

A brutal exchange of forearms would end with Nixon canvasing Kairi. The Pirate Princess would get right back up, unloading more forearms until Nixon grabbed onto her arm and delivered a punishing codebreaker to it. Kairi retaliated with a slap to the face which Nixon reacted to by delivering a brutal headbutt. Kairi shot back with two back elbows before charging at her opponent. Nixon put an end to her flurry with a roundhouse kick to the chest.

Both women laid on the canvas spent, unable to go for a pin. Nixon got to her feet first and went for The Shiniest Wizard. Kairi saw it coming and ducked. Before Nixon could get to her feet, Kairi struck her down with a second Sliding D. Kairi climbed to the top to deliver her finishing elbow drop only to be cut off by a rope assisted enzuigiri to the face. Nixon pulled Kairi off the second rope and smashed her face to knees with a modified codebreaker on the way down.

Nixon thought she had control of the match, charging Kairi as she rose in the opposite corner. Kairi evaded. But Nixon thought quick, slipping to the apron as Kairi went back on the attack. Nixon smashed Kairi's face with a roundhouse kick from the apron. Kairi staggered right into Nixon's top rope crossbody but kicked out just before the referee was about to strike the mat for a third time. Nixon applied a submission hold on Kairi's arm going for the kill. Unfortunately for Nixon, Kairi was able to fight her way to the rope to force the break after a struggle.

Kairi sought respite on the apron but Nixon would not give her that, following her out and striking her down with The Shiniest Wizard. Kairi rolled back into the ring and Nixon followed, waffling her opponent with another Shiniest Wizard. Nixon thought she had victory in the bag but Kairi saved herself getting a foot on the bottom rope. Nixon struck Kairi with frustration forearm shots and sat her on the top rope.

Nixon slapped Kairi across the chest and licked her hand before climbing to the second rope. Kairi fought off the superplex attempt with a headbutt that caught Nixon on the ropes. The Pirate Princess helped Nixon to the canvas with a double stomp to the chest. Kairi went for a pin but Nixon kicked out. Nixon got to her feet only to be pulled down to the mat by her hair into a roll-up for a two count. Like earlier Kairi held onto Nixon's leg to lock her in a submission, this time a stretch muffler that she transitioned into an exploder suplex as Nixon tried to wiggle free.

The end was nigh as Kairi lifted Nixon up for the Alabama slam. Nixon tried to fight out of it, even grabbing the ropes for leverage. But Kairi won out, slamming Nixon on her back. The Pirate Princess went to the top rope and delivered a picture perfect flying elbow drop to keep Nixon down for the three count and championship retention. After the bell, the cornerwomen for both competitors hit the ring to tend to them.

Nixon's cornerwomen Kay Lee Ray and Viper (Piper Niven) helped her to the floor but moments later Kairi would ask her to return. Nixon did and accepted Kairi's handshake. Kairi whispered kind words to Nixon as they embraced. Nixon whispered some kind words back in return. Kairi raised her opponent's arm and pointed to her in salute. Nixon bowed to Kairi in respect before taking her leave to the back.
