Shimmer Volume 71 took place during WrestleMania Weekend 2015 in San Jose, California. To mark Shimmer's first ever event on the West Coast, The ChickFight Tournament would take place. The winner would receive a shot at the Shimmer Championship in the future. This tournament would feature 12 of the best in Shimmer: Evie, Portia Perez, Nicole Savoy, Candice LeRae, Cherry Bomb, Nikki Storm (Nikki Cross), Kay Lee Ray, Kimber Lee, Athena, Mia Yim, Jessicka Havok and Cheerleader Melissa. The three finalists would compete at the end of the show in a three-way elimination match to determine the winner.

Evie would participate in the first match of the day facing Shimmer Original Portia Perez. The opening bell sounded and Portia took her eye off Evie, spewing insults at the ringside fans. Evie rolled Portia up trying to get a quick win. Portia got to her feet after kicking out at one only to get caught in a backslide. Evie continued to go for the fast win, rolling Portia up with an O'Connor roll with a jacknife cover for a two count. Portia swiftly took control, sending Evie to the canvas with a throat thrust.

Portia dished out offense in the corner in the form of a knife edge chop and headbutt. Evie fought back and had an opening for the charging Yakuza kick. Portia ducked out of the way and took a breather on the floor. Evie slipped out to the apron and tried for a running PK, however Portia grabbed her leg and pulled her to the floor, Evie's face smashing into the apron on the way down. Portia kept up her relentless attacking, smashing Evie head first into the ring post. Back in the ring, Portia boot choked Evie in the corner after an unsuccessful pin attempt.

Evie was snapmared out of the corner and nailed with a dropkick to the back. Portia went for another cover but Evie kicked out at two. Perez hit a swinging neckbreaker and took a moment to taunt Evie before going for a cover. Evie kicked out. Perez took her eyes off her opponent again to taunt the crowd, receiving a series of roundhouse kicks to the shoulder. Evie went for another charging Yakuza kick, however Portia evaded again and Evie's foot got caught over the top rope. Portia used the leverage to spike Evie with a rope assisted neckbreaker for a two count.

Portia hit Evie with a standing neckbreaker and made a cover, only to get another two count. She continued to work on Evie's neck, applying a neck vice. Fueled by the crowd's cheers, Evie lifted Portia onto her back and tried to break free, smashing her opponent into the corner. But Portia grabbed onto the top rope to avoid full impact. Portia applied a sleeper but Evie tried again, smashing her opponent into the corner without her grabbing the rope this time.

Evie circled around the ring and struck Portia with the charging Yakuza kick. Both women were spent, struggling to get to their feet. Evie made it first, getting a burst of adrenaline hitting a clothesline and two dropkicks. Portia was snapmared to the canvas which Evie followed up with a kick to the back and running kick to the chest. Evie stacked her opponent up for a two count.

Portia's ally Shimmer Champion Nicole Matthews climbed onto the apron to steal Evie's attention. But Evie sensed what was coming next, ducking as Portia came at her from behind, causing Matthews to collide with her ally. Evie lifted Portia onto her shoulders as she turned around, nailing TTYL and advancing to the second round with a pinfall victory.
