August 9th 2018. Steffanie Newell (Tegan Nox) tore her MCL, LCL, ACL and both menisci in her left knee. It would be another road to recovery for her, both physically and mentally. Thanks to real life best friends like Candice LeRae and Charlie (Dakota Kai), she would have her support system close to her. Charlie tore her ACL in December 2018. Newell and her would go through the recovery process side-by-side. They were inseparable working their way through the rough times together.

Steffanie would attend the historic first ever all woman's pay-per-view event WWE Evolution on October 28th 2018. She sat in the crowd with fellow Mae Young Classic competitors Rhea Ripley, Meiko Satomura and Tay Conti. At the end of the event, she would be present in the group gathering alongside best friends and fellow wrestlers Dakota Kai, Candice LeRae and Mia Yim. The highlight of Evolution for her was getting to meet her inspiration and heroine Molly Holly.

Newell would still find herself in a dark place mentally. She would find her way out after seeing Captain Marvel and drawing inspiration from Brie Larson's Carol Danvers. Newell had credited the movie as the reason she was able to recover both physically and mentally.

Steffanie Newell had fought her way through the mental pain and would continue to rehab her knee. On July 1st 2019 at the WWE Performance Center, Steffanie Newell would be cleared to wrestle again. On July 25th 2019 she would compete for the first time since her injury, competing in a tag team match at an NXT House Show that saw Jessi Kamea and Tegan Nox defeat Aliyah and Vanessa Borne. Tegan Nox was back in action. Faster. Stronger. Shinier.
